Topic 2 – Targeting secondary sources to enhance access to raw materials
Our expertise lies in the sintering of high-performance materials, the diffusion bonding of critical or challenging materials, and the entire cycle of brake development—from the manufacture and coating of brake discs, their machining, the development of suitable brake pads, to the qualification of their performance characteristics on a brake test stand, including particle emission measurements.
Our sintering specialization focuses on the recycling of titanium materials—on the one hand, the intelligent processing of titanium chips, and on the other, the controlled machining of Endofuse titanium components into sinterable bulk material.
We operate one of Europe’s largest sintering facilities, capable of processing components with edge lengths of up to 400 mm. This enables the energy-efficient and cost-effective processing of these materials into new semi-finished products or their upcycling into particle-reinforced protective plates or materials with higher strength properties.
Our research institute is a nonprofit organization that was founded in November 2025. In addition to one of Europe’s largest sintering facilities, we have three flywheel test benches for qualifying brake rotors and brake pads and for characterizing particle emissions. Our expertise is defined by a high-temperature vacuum furnace, dynamic and static tensile testing technology, and many years of experience in brake development and qualification with and for OEMs, as well as an equal number of years of experience in research and development in the fields of joining technology, material-appropriate process selection, and additive manufacturing.
