Topic 4 – Overcoming technological barriers to circularity
We are looking to collaborate with academic and industrial partners developing technologies that extend product lifetime through reuse, repair, refurbishment, remanufacturing and recycling. Our expertise includes Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD), circularity assessment, eco-design and sustainability assessment. We contribute by quantifying environmental, economic and social impacts and supporting the development and validation of circular solutions.
The Sustainability of Materials Research Group at Maastricht University is part of the Aachen-Maastricht Institute for Biobased Materials. SusCheM develops methods and tools to assess and improve the sustainability of materials and products throughout their life cycle. Our expertise includes Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD), circularity assessment, and life cycle sustainability assessment. We are particularly specialised in supporting the development of emerging technologies and materials through ex ante and prospective sustainability assessments, enabling informed decision-making from low Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) to industrial scale-up and future implementation. We support the transition towards a circular and biobased economy.
