Topic 1 - Ensuring a resilient supply of raw materials from primary sources
I am a Senior Researcher focusing on the socio-economic and environmental dimensions of raw material extraction, with extensive field experience in the Great Lakes Region (Rwanda, Tanzania). My research bridges the gap between mineral extraction and sustainable development, particularly in the context of Artisanal and Small-scale Mining (ASM) and its role in the global supply of critical raw materials such as Lithium and 3T minerals (Tin, Tantalum, Tungsten).
I have developed and published a comprehensive typology of environmental impacts of mining (geomorphological, hydrological, and soil impacts) which is essential for implementing Safe and Sustainable by Design principles. My recent work also explores the nexus between lithium extraction and the digital/green transition, analyzing value chain interdependencies.

I am looking to join consortia targeting the following topics:
Topic 1: Assessing and mitigating social and environmental impacts; promoting community engagement and social acceptance.
Topic 5: Analyzing non-technological barriers (social, behavioral, economic) to circular economy practices.
Topic 6: Enhancing traceability and transparency in raw material supply chains (expertise in certification schemes like iTSCi/RMAP).
Potential Roles in the Project (Work Package Level)
Lead/Partner for Social & Environmental Impact Assessment (SEIA): Applying field-based qualitative and quantitative methods to evaluate local impacts.
Stakeholder Engagement & Governance: Analyzing mineral traceability systems, mining sector reforms, and community acceptance.
Policy Analysis: Identifying regulatory barriers and facilitating the formalization of mining value chains.
