Topic 5 – Putting Circular Economy Ambitions into Action
Initial project proposal
We are developing a RAMP Topic 5 proposal on circular value chains in European high-tech manufacturing, with a particular interest in semiconductor and advanced technology ecosystems. The project will investigate how companies can move from linear end-of-life practices towards repair, reuse, refurbishment, component harvesting and, where appropriate, recovery of critical raw materials.
The project takes a perspective from Module to Component and Material level, to be able to explore interdependencies on the Ecosystem level. It starts from industrial interdependencies and complex modules/components, and identifies opportunities to retain value and recover critical materials. A key focus is on the organisational, economic, information, IP and governance barriers that prevent circular solutions from being implemented across company and national boundaries.
We are looking for European research and industry partners who can contribute complementary expertise, industrial cases or circular value-chain capabilities. Particularly relevant are partners from semiconductor, electronics, high-tech manufacturing, component reuse/harvesting, recycling and critical raw-material value chains, as well as researchers working on circular economy, industrial ecosystems, business models, supply chains and governance, with interest and focus on the semiconductor industry.
Fontys University of Applied Scienes, Professorship Circular Transitions
Fontys is a Dutch University of Applied sciences with expertise in circular transitions and systemic change. The Professorship Circular Transitions helps companies move from value extraction towards integral value creation across entire value chains, addressing economic, environmental and societal dimensions of sustainability.
Within the RAMP project, Fontys brings applied research expertise in circular business models, supply-chain collaboration, innovation, environmental impact, regulation and ecosystem transformation, and connects research with education through student projects and internships. Fontys believes that circular transitions require collaboration between companies, knowledge institutions, government and societal actors, supported by experimentation, data-driven approaches and a willingness to challenge existing linear business practices.
Fontys is looking for European research and industry partners interested in co-developing and testing practical approaches to circular value chains in high-tech manufacturing/semiconductor industry and critical raw materials.
