Topic 3 – Efficient and effective use of raw materials in design and production
Within RAMP Topic 3, nablaDot can contribute to the development and validation of digital solutions aimed at reducing raw material consumption and losses, increasing process yield, improving the use of secondary or variable-quality feedstocks, and minimising water and energy demand. Our capabilities include computational fluid dynamics (CFD), multiphysics and process modelling, reduced-order models, data-driven models, AI-based optimisation, virtual sensing, predictive tools and real-time digital twins.
These technologies can be applied to analyse and improve material, fluid and energy flows throughout manufacturing and materials-processing operations. They make it possible to identify process inefficiencies, assess alternative operating conditions or equipment designs, predict product quality and resource consumption, and optimise production while respecting technical, environmental and safety constraints.
nablaDot can undertake activities including:
• Development of detailed CFD and multiphysics models of industrial equipment and production processes.
• Creation of reduced-order and surrogate models suitable for rapid optimisation, decision support and real-time applications.
• Development of digital twins integrating process models, sensor data and industrial IoT infrastructures.
• AI-driven process monitoring, virtual sensing, anomaly detection and optimisation of operating conditions.
• Assessment of material yield, raw material losses, energy and water consumption, waste generation and relevant environmental performance indicators.
• Evaluation of process flexibility when using secondary raw materials, alternative materials or feedstocks with variable properties.
• Virtual testing of new equipment designs, process configurations and control strategies before implementation at pilot or industrial scale.
• Model validation, scale-up support and deployment of digital tools in operational environments.
nablaDot is interested in joining transnational consortia involving raw-material producers, materials processors, energy- and material-intensive industries, equipment manufacturers, technology providers and research organisations. Our role would be to provide the modelling and digitalisation layer that links experimental development and industrial demonstration, accelerating process optimisation, scale-up and the practical implementation of resource-efficient manufacturing technologies.
