Topic 6 – Innovative approaches for analysing raw materials value chains
The Brightlands Institute for Supply Chain Innovation (BISCI), Maastricht University, seeks to join or co-develop a RAMP 2026 Topic 6 consortium focused on innovative analysis of raw-material value chains.
BISCI contributes complementary expertise in multi-tier supply-chain analysis, dynamic modelling, supply-chain resilience, risk and disruption analysis, traceability, sustainability and industrial decision support.
Our particular interest is in moving beyond static mapping of raw-material value chains towards dynamic, decision-oriented models that allow industrial and public stakeholders to stress-test alternative value-chain configurations.
We are interested in projects addressing questions such as:
How can critical raw-material value chains be stress-tested against supply, geopolitical, price and logistics disruptions?
How can material-flow, environmental, economic and supply-chain information be integrated into dynamic value-chain models?
How can companies identify and compare alternative sourcing, substitution, recycling and circularity strategies?
How can enhanced traceability and data interoperability support resilience and sustainability decisions across multi-tier value chains?
How can analytical models translate raw-material risks into actionable investment and sourcing decisions?
BISCI can contribute to value-chain mapping and modelling, scenario development, stress testing, resilience assessment, decision-support tools and industrial validation.
We are particularly interested in consortia combining BISCI's supply-chain and decision-science perspective with complementary expertise in raw-material/material science, recovery technologies, LCA, mass-flow analysis, data infrastructures and industrial demonstration.
BISCI is embedded in Maastricht University's research ecosystem and the Brightlands innovation ecosystem in Limburg, providing access to companies, public stakeholders and real-world supply-chain contexts for co-development and validation.
Our preferred role: work-package leadership or major research partner responsible for the dynamic value-chain modelling, stress testing and industrial decision-support component.
The Brightlands Institute for Supply Chain Innovation (BISCI) is a research and innovation institute of Maastricht University focused on smart, sustainable and resilient supply chains. BISCI bridges academic research and industrial practice through close collaboration with companies, governments and knowledge partners. Its expertise spans supply-chain design, digitalisation, sustainability, resilience, procurement, logistics and operations.
BISCI develops data-driven approaches to understand and improve complex, multi-tier value chains. A particular strength is translating complex supply-chain data into actionable insights for industry and policymakers. BISCI develops dynamic models and decision-support approaches to assess risks, dependencies, disruptions and alternative supply-chain configurations. This includes the integration of economic, environmental and operational perspectives to identify trade-offs between resilience, sustainability and competitiveness.
Embedded in the Brightlands ecosystem, BISCI provides strong opportunities for co-creation, industrial validation and translation of research into practical impact.
