Topic 1 - Ensuring a resilient supply of raw materials from primary sources
We are seeking European and international research partners, or an existing European-led consortium, for the RAMP 2026 Joint Call – Topic 1.
We propose TAPAJÓS-CRM, a Brazilian pilot focused on the Tapajós Mineral Province in the Amazon, one of Brazil’s major historical gold-producing regions and an area with geological indications of broader critical-mineral potential.
The project aims to develop and test an integrated and replicable screening, diagnosis and decision-support methodology combining geological, geochemical and geophysical data, remote sensing, mineral-occurrence information and mineralogical characterisation with mineral-rights, environmental, land-tenure and territorial due diligence.
A distinctive feature is the integration of critical-mineral prospectivity with the reality of artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM). The methodology seeks to reduce geological, environmental and regulatory uncertainty while considering pathways that do not automatically exclude local small-scale producers and that fully respect the Brazilian mining regulatory framework.
Historically disturbed mining areas, tailings and previously mobilised materials may also be assessed, where scientifically appropriate, as complementary sources of geochemical and mineralogical information.
We are particularly interested in partners with expertise in critical-mineral exploration, geophysics, geochemistry, mineralogy, remote sensing, geoscientific data integration, prospectivity modelling, sustainable mining and decision-support methodologies.
The Brazilian team is being structured with researchers from the Federal University of Western Pará (UFOPA). We are open to joining and adapting our contribution to an existing consortium. A detailed Concept Note is available upon request.

The Federal University of Western Pará (UFOPA) is a Brazilian federal public university located in the State of Pará, in the Amazon region. Its location provides a distinctive scientific and territorial connection to the Tapajós region and to major Amazonian challenges involving natural resources, environment and sustainable regional development.
For the proposed TAPAJÓS-CRM initiative, the Brazilian team brings together complementary expertise related to chemistry, environmental sciences, geoscientific and mineral assessment, territorial analysis and the Brazilian mining regulatory context.
