Topic 2 – Targeting secondary sources to enhance access to raw materials
I am interested in joining or co-developing a transnational RAMP consortium focused on the recovery of critical and strategic raw materials from secondary mining-related sources, including acid mine drainage, tailings, mine wastes and sulphate-rich secondary concentrates.
My main cooperation interest is to contribute IGME-CSIC expertise in environmental geochemistry, mining hydrogeology, characterisation of secondary raw materials, mine waste valorisation, hydrogeochemical modelling, laboratory validation and techno-environmental assessment of circular recovery processes.
I am particularly interested in collaborating with technology providers, mining companies, SMEs, universities and research centres working on metal recovery, hydrometallurgy, selective concentration, vacuum evaporation, microwave-assisted treatment, water treatment, circular economy and raw materials value chains.
The aim is to develop scalable, low-impact and circular solutions that transform mining environmental liabilities into new sources of critical raw materials and clean water, contributing to European strategic autonomy and the green and digital transition.
IGME-CSIC is the Spanish National Research Council institute specialised in Earth sciences, geological resources, mining, hydrogeology, environmental geochemistry, geological hazards and sustainable management of natural resources. As a public research organisation, IGME-CSIC provides scientific and technical expertise to support public policies, industry and society in areas related to mineral resources, groundwater, environmental protection, mine waste management and the ecological transition.
The institute has extensive experience in the characterisation of mineral deposits, mining wastes, tailings, acid mine drainage and secondary raw materials, as well as in the assessment of environmental risks and the development of sustainable solutions for resource recovery and circular economy. IGME-CSIC combines field expertise, laboratory capabilities, geological and hydrogeochemical modelling, geophysical methods and applied research to address challenges related to critical raw materials, mining legacy, water quality and sustainable mining.
